Gotta love Brisbane: the insider tips

The Easter holiday break is the perfect time to enjoy a few quieter days and get out and about.

Are you new in Brisbane? Or have lived here a while but still don't really 'know' the Brisbane city centre?

Perhaps you are a Brisbanite but don't really go to the CBD apart from work and the occasional dinner or event at Southbank?

Here are my three 'insider' tips to get the most of the Brisbane CBD ...

  1. A little-known highlight and tip for everyone visiting or living in Brisbane are the free 'Brisbane Greeters' tours of the city. I recently came across these at a Brisbane Marketing function and can't wait to go on such a tour myself. Available in various languages, the tour guides are passionate about our city and will take to you on a journey by foot to the famous and not-so-famous parts, so you can experience the real soul and spirit of Brisbane's CBD. And remember, they are free! !Check out their website: .
  2. is another 'top tip' website which shows you what's on where in and around Brisbane. I'm often referring to this for a spontaneous day-out, or as a great reference point for any visitors to Brisbane.
  3. Laneways: It seems that every time I go into the CBD I find a new laneway or a new café/bistro/bar/shop within an existing laneway. We've still got a way to go to compete with Melbourne's famous laneway culture, but I'm loving the transformation of these forgotten back-street alleyways into vibrant lifestyle destinations. For instance, just a few metres from bustling Queen Street Mall is Burnett Lane (off Albert and George Streets) – a great mix of über-cool bars to fabulous authentic German pork knuckles and sausages.
