An exciting city with Liveability at its heart - is what we can expect of Brisbane's CBD within the next 20 years, according to the recently released City Centre Master Plan.

Business and commerce are and will always be crucial to the role of Brisbane's CBD as state capital, however a gradual transformation to a real living destination, with more green areas and cultural vibrance is the bit I particularly like about it.

Dozens of new residential and hotel buildings are expected to also be built, creating a vibrant mix within the city, balancing the strong commercial presence. According to the latest Urbis Brisbane Apartment Insights report, there's a potential for 1,346 new apartments in the CBD from projects that are already approved or proposed. Urbis design director, James Tuma, is upbeat about the potential and said many of the proposals within the city centre master plan would make the CBD a more desirable place to live.

Infrastructure changes are also proposed that will facilitate improved liveability too, with various bridges and other access ways being considered. Edward Street too is planned to develop into a great retail experience, giving Queen St Mall a run for its money.

The current green city lung of Roma St Parklands and Botanic Gardens are to be 'linked' through a revitalisation and tree and plant focus along Albert Street, extending the current dining and alfresco focus of the area.

The key strategies discussed in the City Centre Master Plan were:

• Economic Development - Measures to open up Brisbane even further to investment and gear it towards prosperity.
• Public Realm - Brisbane is an open air city due to its climate, so ways are investigated to bring greenery into the city heart and to encourage people to want to be outside
• Built Form - Making Brisbane more beautiful, structures and Infrastructure need to integrate well, reflect the Queensland style and adapt to the sub-tropical climate.
• Social & Cultural - Discovering Brisbane as an urban playground and creating a real buzz and vibrance in its streets, laneways and small spaces.
• Transport - Enabling people to move fast, efficiently and freely within the CBD and from the CBD to further afield

The resulting projects and initiatives were grouped together in what Brisbane City Council calls '10 City-making Moves'. These are:

2. City bridges

3. City boulevards

4. A green spine

5. Grand arrivals

6. Transit city

7. The inner-city stitch

8. Distinctive architecture

9. 24/7 event city

10. A creative economy
